Amaranth Genmaicha Green Tea
Imagine all the naturally sweet, refreshing, vegetal goodness of green tea combined with the comforting warmth of toasted rice. This classic combination makes up Genmaicha; a Japanese tea blend created to make sencha more accessible. While this blend should probably be called Amaransucha to be truly accurate, we named it after the style of tea that inspired its creation.
Amaranth is a "grain" found on all continents with a history of human habitiation. 10 species are considered native to North America, and it was widely cultivated in Mesoamerica by cultures at least as far back as the Aztecs as a staple and even for ceremonial purposes. No flavor or warmth is lost in exchanging rice for the puffed amaranth. It's nutty and aromatic and beautiful, and it is also gluten-free!

On average, 4 oz of loose tea will produce 30-40 liquid 8 oz cups of tea. Many teas, especially true teas containing Camellia sinesis, can be steeped more than once.
To prepare, use 1-1.5 tsp of tea per 8 oz of water. Steep for 2 minutes at 175°F / 79°C.
